Canada Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) is a pathway to permanent residency designed for skilled workers and international graduates seeking to live and work in Atlantic Canada. Launched as a pilot in 2017 and made permanent in 2022, the program aims to address labor shortages and boost economic growth in the four Atlantic provinces: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. By connecting applicants with genuine job opportunities and offering settlement support, the program helps newcomers integrate successfully into their new communities.

The AIP consists of three streams to accommodate different applicant profiles. The Atlantic International Graduate Program is tailored for recent graduates from eligible institutions in the region. The Atlantic High-Skilled Program targets workers with experience in specialized, in-demand fields, while the Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program focuses on individuals with job offers in essential industries requiring mid-level skills. Together, these streams create a flexible, employer-driven immigration pathway that addresses demographic challenges and supports sustainable development across Atlantic Canada.

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) provides a streamlined pathway to permanent residency, offering job opportunities and settlement support to ease the transition for newcomers. Applicants and their families benefit from settlement plans that ensure smooth integration into the region, fostering a welcoming and innovation-driven environment. Notably, International Graduate applicants can apply without any prior work experience, making the program more accessible to recent graduates.

AIP also emphasizes community development by requiring candidates to live and work in Atlantic Canada, helping to retain immigrants and support the growth of the region. The program's processing time for permanent residency is impressively fast, typically taking around 8–10 months, ensuring a quicker transition for those seeking new opportunities in Atlantic Canada.

The Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) provides three pathways to permanent residency: the International Graduate Program, the Atlantic High-Skilled Program, and the Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program.

The International Graduate Program is for graduates of publicly funded institutions in an Atlantic Province who have lived in the region for at least 16 months within the two years before graduation. Applicants do not need prior work experience but must pass a language test in English or French with a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 5 and provide proof of financial support.

The Atlantic High-Skilled Program is designed for individuals with at least one year of work experience in a National Occupation Classification (NOC) 0, A, or B job. Applicants must also have a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education, meet a minimum CLB score of 5 in a language test, and show proof of funds for themselves and their families.

The Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program is for candidates with at least one year of work experience in a NOC C job. Applicants need a Canadian high school diploma or its equivalent, a minimum CLB score of 4 on a language test, and proof of financial resources. These pathways aim to attract skilled individuals, graduates, and workers to contribute to the economic and social development of Atlantic Canada.

The processing for the Atlantic Immigration Program involves several steps. First, candidates must meet requirements in education, work experience, language proficiency, and secure a valid job offer. Once these criteria are fulfilled, the endorsement certificate processing takes approximately 1–2 months. Following that, the permanent residence application is submitted, with a processing timeline of 8–10 months until the passport request stage.
